I Am Not A Boss Pleaser
Good leaders are so annoying! They are difficult to control, and they don’t fall in line. They’re too busy standing out and have no time to fit in. Good leaders just don’t behave. They’re always messing with tradition, destroying boundaries, and asking questions that you don’t know the answer to.
These are not my words, they are from Miles Monroe but when I heard them this morning the statement really stood out to me. This is where I want to be, I don’t want to just fit in or “go along to get along”. I am not advocating insubordination in any way but if something happens that I don’t understand or agree with then someone is gonna hear it (especially if it affects my crew). In turn, I want the members of my crew to be this kind of leaders as well. I have no interest in surrounding myself with people that only want to agree with me because I’m the “officer” or people that aren’t willing to speak up for what’s right. After hearing his words it made me think how much work being a leader is and how easy it would be to just go along and be a company man. Being a leader is a lot of work and there will be times when you have to stand up and voice opinions that are contrary to those of the ranks above you but I’ll take that extra work any day over just rolling over and letting my crew get stepped on.
My crew comes first because I know that when I take care of my crew they’ll do anything possible to complete whatever task is put ahead of them. Which results in the citizens of our district getting the best care they could ever ask for. That’s the example i I want to make because that’s the boss I’d love to work for.
